THE LOWER PROVINCES.
—We have some scanty scraps of intelligence from New Brunswick and Nova Scotia, respecting Parliamentary saying. In the Nova Scotia Legislature it is stated, of course in an opposition paper, that upon Mr. Annand asking from the Ministry an explanation of the speech of Mr. [John] A. MacDonald at Cornwall, in which that gentleman said, that we should have confederation in a few weeks, the Provincial Secretary lost his temper and spoke of Mr. MacDonald’s statements as an after dinner speech. In the New Brunswick Legislature, Mr. Smith, the Premier, is reported to have declared that the Ministry were much opposed as ever to the Quebec Scheme of Confederation. He also said that he desired to have a new Convention and had proposed it, but in vain to Mr. Brown, when he was in New Brunswick.
