Mr. Benson’s appointment to the vacant Senatorship gives considerable satisfaction to the Upper Canada Reformers here—although many of them would have preferred that Mr. Bennet should have had it, as an old and staunch member of the reform party, who was much longer a Legislative Councillor than Mr. Benson. But his time will come doubtless, ere long. McDougall and Howland are disgusted at Mr. Benson’s appointment—they having promised it to Mr. James Cowan of Galt, as the reward of his treachery to his party at last election.
