ANNEXATION IN UPPER CANADA.
—The Canadisches Volksblatt states that the numerous Germans of Canada West watch with intense interest the progress of the annexation feeling. They wish to see this revolution peacefully consummated by the gradual change of public opinion. It is their last and only hope of obtaining a citizenship free from taint of national degradation, since the Canadian act of naturalization does not make them British subjects outside the limits of the Province, while their application to the government has only resulted in their being told to wait patiently for Confederation, which they consider now as a still-born scheme. As to any more German emigrants coming to Canada to enjoy the privilege and position of political outcasts, this is out of the question. Those already settled here will feel bound to warn off their friends from the fatherland. These utterances, though painful, are to be expected in the peculiar position of Germans in Canada.
