CONFEDERATION OR ANNEXATION. 

— The absurdity of this, the stock cry of the advocates of Confederation, has frequently been pointed out in these columns. Noticing Mr. Galt’s reference to the subject at the the Lennoxville Dinner, the Kingston News, a ministerial journal, makes this sensible remark:—

“There is this to be said now, as it was said during the Parliamentary debates on the Quebec resolutions, that it is a very unwise and injudicious, nay, an unpatriotic thing, to set up annexation to a foreign country as the alternative of the failure of any political system that may be in vogue for a time among ourselves. In the present unanimous state of public feeling, there is the less necessity for dragging in such views, and for familiarizing us with an object of aversion. Mr. Galt made a great mistake in unnecessarily referring to annexation in such terms.”
