Dear Mr Chretien, I acknowledge receipt of your telex with regard to the aboriginal treaty rights provision and the suggestion emanating from the province of Alberta. It is our understanding that subsequently your officials have discussed the matter with the province of Alberta and as a result you are now recommending that the matter be resolved by the insertion of the word “existing” prior to the word “aboriginal” in the former Section 34. Our position continues as indicated in Premier Bennett’s letter to the Prime Minister and we are prepared to accede to your recommended course of action providing all parties to the Accord concur.
