Re: Text of aboriginal rights amendment

Following telephone discussions by the Honourable Jean Chretien yesterday with ministers in each of the provinces, I set out below for your information the text of the new Part II on aboriginal peoples rights as it was agreed upon.

Quote Part II Rights of the aboriginal peoples of Canada 35.

(1) The existing aboriginal and treaty rights of the aboriginal peoples of Canada are hereby recognized and affirmed.

(2) In this act, quote aboriginal peoples of Canada unquote includes the Indian, Inuit and Metis peoples of Canada. Unquote
