TO RIPEN OR TO DIE
—The Canadien begs leave to make a little correction in his article on Confederation which we have translated. The printer, by the addition of one letter to one word, has made him say something stronger than he intended. Speaking of Confederation, the article said: “Allow it to die out in the mind of the populations.” It should have been, “Allow it to ripen.” The printer has put mourir instead of mûrir. The Canadien, however, should not be uneasy about the mistake, for whether you give the Confederation time to ripen or time to die, the practical result is just about the same, and our ministers have shown by their hurry in passing the measure that they knew this but too well.
